I have recently retired from work and getting back into reading
novels.
When I told this to my elderly neighbour she suggested that I read GH
books.
Where do I start? |

My mother introduced me to Heyer's books 40 years ago (I was 13) when
I needed summer reading. I have many in hardcover now- having vastly
increased her original collection. I too have tried to interest
others, with little success...they are simply too sophisticated for
most. I have seen a few recently in paperback, having been out of
print for years. I hope a new generation discovers them. Best regards
to all those readers out there who have kept the spirit of elegance,
wit and real conversation alive. |

I found Georgette when I was 18 and the title "The Black
Moth" intrigued me. There's not another writer like her. I too
have reread each book and some a dozen times. My absolute favorite is
"Frederica." I'm looking to get all my collection into
hardback and find Cotillion which was loaned out and never
returned.
I didn't know there were others like me. I've tried to share her with
my friends, but no one seems to appreciate her. |

I read my first Georgette Heyer novel when I was 14 and off school
because I was ill. In the many years since, I have read and re-read
almost all of her books. Some of mine are literally falling apart. |

A fabulous Aunty introduced me to Georgette Heyer novels when I was
about ten, my favourites are Arabella & Regency Buck. I have the
franklin mint Arabella figurine and would dearly love to get hold of
the Leonie and Sophy figurines. I'm so pleased to have found other
fans! |

I bought my first Georgette Heyer novel (Regency Buck) in London in
2004. I didn't like it rightaway, I had some trouble to get into the
story, but then I got into it and couldn't stop reading! I even took
the book along with me while sightseeing ;) ! Now I'm addicted and
read a lot of them. My favorites are These Old Shades, Devil's Cub
(perhaps even my all time favorite), Arabella, Frederica, The Grand
Sophy and The Corinthian.
Now I'm so addicted that I started to look for some fanfic, but I
ain't very successfull, so if anyone can give me some sites with Heyer
fanfic, I would be very happy! |

Wow! Love your website, especially the Quizzes- What Fun! You're an
inspiration to Georgette Heyer Fans. I am a 3rd generation Georgette
Heyer fan and have read all of her romances at least 2 or 3 times each
(and more) and some of the others as well only the romances are
definitely my favs. Began reading them shortly after I got married,
which may have been a mistake due to the completely lovable Heros that
Heyer concocted for our delectation. Yumm... Somehow, newlywed life in
the real world fell sadly short of Regency Glitz. No worries, I did
adapt to my double life. ;-) My husband is a hero in his own right.
Thank you for your time on The Site. |

Hi Sally
Don't know what the previous messages are all about. Hope your site
ok.
I became a subscriber to The Scotsman newspaper archives (1817+) for a
day (about £8) and found that Juana Smith from "The Spanish
bride" got a pension of £500 a year on the 5th December 1848 in
recognition of Harry Smith's services at Aliwal etc.
They were always hopeless with money and he tried to get her a pension
before his death.
Lots of information about his famous battle of Aliwal there too. |

I first read a book in high school because I loved the fantasy of a
different time and country. I absolutely loved it and became a
confirmed Anglophile, Regency romance, and especially Georgette Heyer
fan! :D I was just messing around when I found this site. It's
wondeful to find others who love her books as much as I do. ;-) |
