Hey Louisa
I've only read Sprig Muslin out of the 5 books you've listed
so I am genuinely biased in saying you should read it next.
How's your reading of "The Unknown Ajax"
going? You'll fall in love with Hugo soon...you'll see
why.
Bye

Buongiorno to everybody. I'm grateful to this site's
creator, G.Heyer is really worth to be known. I'm a total fan of
Heyer's novels since the 1st I read as a teen; and like many of u
have read and re-read all of her novels. I've often regretted
that critics did not value Heyer as much as she deserves, for her wit,
her perfect prose, her historical competence. My favourites: THESE
OLD SHADES (absolutely a jewel), RELUCTANT WIDOW, CONVENIENT MARRIAGE,
DEVIL'S CUB, VENETIA. Ciao |

Hi!
Thankyou Kirsty. I'll read The Foundling next! I'm going to
keep plowing on through The Unknown Ajax until I reach the last 100
pages, then I'm sure I'll be pleased. :)
Also, has anyone else noticed that she likes to give some of her male
characters 'large girths'?
Louisa. |

Hi Louisa,
The best part of the unknown ajax is the last 100 pages or so as this
is where the story comes together, out of those five i would recommend
the foundling or the spanish bride to read next as they are both very
good.
I have found that charity shops are usually good places to find heyer
novels.

Hello Melody and Anna,
I haven't read Devil's Cub yet, because I get my books from
the library, and most of her books are usually already borrowed, so I
can't borrow them. It's very sad. Soon, though, I'm
going to the local second-hand bookshop, so I'll try and get some
Georgette Heyer books from there. Hopefully, I will be able to.
I am currently reading the Unknown Ajax, and finding it a bit slow,
but I'm sure it'll get better. I've also got 5 other
books on loan: The Foundling, A Civil Contract, Charity Girl, Sprig
Muslin and The Spanish Bride. Which one is your favourite out of the
5, so I can know which one to read next?
Sincerely,
Louisa. |

Hey Louisa
Thanks for responding. I've read The Corinthian and found Pen
really entertaining. She is vey funny. I love Richard too. Don't
you just enjoy the way Georgette adds life to her characters.
It's like I know them personally , as if they really exist
phyically. Have you read Devil's Cub the sequel to These Old
Shades? I haven't yet but plan to do soon?
Bye...

Hello Melody
I read These Old Shades a week or so ago, and I absolutely loved it as
well! It was such a great book, and made me love Georgette's
writing even more. All the books I've read of hers have been
amazing. I am currently reading The Corinthian, and am enjoying it
hugely. :)
See ya,
Louisa. |

Hi Kirsty!
Thanks for getting back to me. I guess you are right a book is always
different than a movie. But all the same I would like very much to see
'An Infamous Army' as a movie for example! It will be famous
I bet if is produced, directed and played with the right people.
Regards,
Anna |

Hi Anna i do think that movies of her books would be great and
accessible to men and women however, i no that i personally am the
type of person who greatly dislikes hollywood and other movie makers
changing books and it would run the risk of destroying the books i
believe that the film of the reluctant widow was seen by georgette
heyer and she disliked it so much she walked out |

Hi All!
It frustrates me to see her books on the romance section of bookshops
instead of the literary seciton. I just cannot understand why they
don't make movies or TV serios out of her books. An Infamous Army
would be a great movie which even men would watch. Don't you all
agree?

It's wonderful to find this site! I'm a lifelong Heyer fan
and I must have gone through three copies of each book - as they fall
apart after many readings! I was a late-comer to the detective novel
series, but I'm now a dedicated fan. The only Heyer's
I've not read are the Short Stories and Modern Romances and The
Great Roxhythe - that's soon to change as I was given a copy for
my birthday. It's come from the US, as it's been out of
publication for years, but I'm saving it (in its plastic cover)
until I go on holiday in a couple of weeks - such restraint! |

My mother imbued in me a deep, abiding love of Georgette Heyer's
Romances. I did not find out for many years that there were mysteries
as well. I could not tell you all how many times I have read each of
her novels. I have just finished "The Reluctant Widow" and
am now about to launch back into "Fredrica". Finally I have
found a place where people will know what I mean when I say words like
"Faradiddles" and "Peagoose". Thankyou. Rach |
